bullet1 Managing People

bullet2 Are you sure about this?   Knowledge Management

What is Knowledge Management?

Knowledge Management is concerned with the collection and use of information within a business for competitive advantage. This knowledge relates to facts, thoughts, and rules about key business areas such as customers, regulation and processes that are stored in people's heads or are documented in a  variety of areas  throughout an organization. The process also looks at sources of knowledge that are pertinent to the business but may be stored externally by third parties.

How can Knowledge Management benefit the business?

Having knowledge recorded in a systematic manner that can be retrieved and used to help the business can:

  • avoid the danger of knowledge leaving when the staff member or consultant leaves

  • allow the organization access to experience of how problems were successfully overcome in the past

  • enable the sharing of best practice across the organization

  • avoid inefficiency and missed opportunities.

How we can help

Knowledge management has two key characteristics, firstly it needs to be recorded, and secondly it must be capable of being retrieved when it is needed. MEC Services can help you  by :

  1. documenting existing sources of  knowledge through interviews, process mapping, or searching through the organization's existing sources of information

  2. organizing this knowledge and assist in the search for a suitable methodology and / or IT system that allows it to be stored

  3. implementing the changes necessary to ensure the knowledge is always updated as things change and make this part of the organization's culture

  4. establishing procedures that explain how the information is to be retrieved and used
