Project Management
What
is Project Management?
Project management is
defined under the PRINCE 2 methodology as:
'a management environment
that is created for the purpose of delivering one or more business products
according to a specified business case'
and has the following
characteristics:
-
a finite
and defined lifespan
-
defined and
measurable business products
-
a corresponding
set of activities to achieve the business products
-
a defined
amount of resources
-
an
organization structure, with defined responsibilities, to manage the
project

How
can Project Management benefit the business?
Project management
allows the use of a tried and tested set of tools that helps organizations to
implement new ways of working with the minimum of risk. It allows an organization
to:
-
achieve
specific objectives at a predefined cost in a particular time frame and
to a particular level of quality
-
manage the
change to the new way of working with its associated complexity and
uncertainty
