Back to What We Do
Strategic Management
What is Strategic Management?
Strategic Management is the process of creating a road map
for the business describing how it will achieve success in its chosen field. However,
creation of this map is only the beginning; the important part is getting
everyone's 'buy in' to the strategy and ensuring that it is implemented. Many pieces
of research have shown that companies can be quite good at creating the road map
but implementing the strategy and navigating the route tends to be problem for
around 80% of them.
How can Strategic Management benefit the
business?
"What business strategy is all about - what
distinguishes it from all other kinds of business planning - is, in a word
competitive advantage"
Kenichi Ohmae - The Mind of the Strategist
Competitive advantage is gained, simply, by being better
than your competitors. The skill is knowing how to do this in a way that
'being better' translates into an advantage that appeals to your stakeholders,
and in particular your customers.
Strategic Management provides a tried and tested tool that
allows business to:
-
Set direction
-
Create a common framework of understanding as a back
ground to decision-making
-
Encourage communication and learning at all levels
-
Establish a rationale for the allocation of resources
-
Co-ordinate people's actions to achieve the common
purpose
How we can help
The process of strategic management involves:
-
Describing the
business vision, mission and values
-
Analysing the
internal and external business environment
-
Assessing the
business strengths and weaknesses
-
Developing and
evaluating a range of potential actions that lead to competitive advantage
-
Communicating
and agreeing the strategies
-
Implementing the
planned approach
-
Monitoring
performance and undertaking continuous improvement in the strategy and
actions.
MEC Services Ltd
can help you analyze the current state of the business through review of the
internal and external business environment and through interviewing key
directors and managers. We will then facilitate your team to:
-
review the
findings from the analysis
-
create an agreed
vision of where the business should be
-
prepare and
evaluate a range of strategies
-
communicate and
implement the strategic changes that may be necessary
-
design and
implement a performance monitoring system
-
establish a continuous
improvement policy
However, if you feel that our hands-on approach may in
some way compromise business sensitivities, then we can simply provide comprehensive
management education and training courses to provide you with the necessary theoretical
knowledge to undertake this type of project. We will always be happy to
provide additional training or assistance on an 'as required' basis.
See our range of
training courses and course schedule.
